What is a Junior Counselor? The Junior Counselor program is a chance for rising 12th graders to learn from seasoned camp staff as they observe and share their responsibilities in and out of unit. JCs will assist staff in facilitating activities such as boating, crafting, games, cookouts, and so much more. Junior Counselors will also step in behind the scenes to assist the camp directors in planning, cleaning, and preparing the summer camp facilities/programming.
A Junior Counselor is someone with a camping background who is responsible, dependable, and displays great leadership qualities. Throughout this program all JCs will learn about the why behind our work and the magic that goes into making a fun and successful summer! This program is an opportunity for rising 12th graders to grow and mature while obtaining skills that will aid them for the rest of their lives.
A Junior Counselor is still a camper and will have constant supervision from their mentor while experiencing the freedom to learn, adapt, and lead. Junior Counselors will be placed in unit and provided with 2-hour breaks daily where they can rest or participate in other scheduled programming as a camper.
We will conduct interviews to hand select the best fit for our camps and to give Junior Counselors the experience of applying for what may be their first job. Beyond being an extremely rewarding experience, GSK resident camps promise to give Junior Counselors an amazing skillset, reference letters for use in future applications, and community service hours that will be signed off by our camp directors.
